Building Futures Exhibition of Learning Celebrates Another Year of Hands-On Learning
Each year, the Building Futures Exhibition of Learning is more than a year-end celebration. It is a chance for students, families, educators, tradespeople, and community partners to come together and recognize what can happen when education moves beyond the traditional classroom.
This year, Building Futures celebrated another successful year of hands-on learning, with 30 Grade 10 students completing two homes in Airdrie’s Chinook Gate community. Through the program, students had the opportunity to take part in the homebuilding process while continuing their regular Grade 10 curriculum in a unique, real-world learning environment.
A long-standing partnership between McKee Homes and Rocky View Schools, Building Futures gives students the chance to experience the residential construction industry from the ground up. Instead of learning only from textbooks, students spend the school year on an active homebuilding site, where garages are transformed into classroom spaces and the homes beside them become part of the learning experience.
Throughout the year, students work alongside qualified tradespeople, teachers, and industry professionals to explore many aspects of building a home. From construction and design to teamwork, safety, communication, and problem solving, the program helps students connect what they are learning in school with practical skills they can carry into the future.
The Exhibition of Learning marks the culmination of that work. It gives students the opportunity to showcase what they have built, what they have learned, and how they have grown throughout the year. For many, the experience is not only about discovering potential career paths in the trades, but also about building confidence, independence, and pride in their work.
At McKee Homes, we are proud to support a program that invests in young people, strengthens our community, and highlights the value of skilled trades. Building Futures reflects what is possible when local schools, businesses, trades, and families work together to create meaningful learning opportunities.
Congratulations to this year’s Building Futures students on another incredible year. The homes they helped build are a lasting reminder of their hard work, dedication, and the future they are already helping shape.
