Safety Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you again for choosing us to build your new home. We feel privileged to build your home and will endeavor to ensure it is everything you hoped for. Whether you’re a homeowner or Trade Partner, these F.A.Q’s will help in understanding the Safety Program and Culture here at McKee Homes & our partner company, Emerald New Homes.

McKee Homes and Emerald New Homes are COR certified (for over 10 years). COR stands for Certificate of Recognition, which means our health and safety system has been audited and meets recognized provincial standards.

These standards are set by Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

Yes. All visitors and contractors must follow McKee Homes and Emerald New Homes construction site safety rules.

Homeowners and visitors will be briefed on safety requirements during the sales and design phases, and all site access must follow our safety plan.

Yes — but only through scheduled and supervised visits, for your safety and in compliance with our safety program.

Home visits may happen on four supervised occasions, including:

  • Framing walkthrough (with your Superintendent)
  • Finishing carpentry walkthrough (with your Superintendent)
  • Drywall stage visit (with your Salesperson)
  • Flooring stage visit (with your Salesperson)

We will contact you when the home is ready for these tour days if you’d like to participate (not mandatory). Important: Access is restricted outside of these appointments unless a pre-scheduled, supervised appointment is arranged.

McKee Homes team members complete safety training through our education partner:

Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA)

Our staff have completed 120+ safety-related courses, and continue to take training each year to stay current with changing construction safety practices.

Additional training includes:

  • Access to the Health & Safety Systems Manual (HSMS)
  • Access to the OHS rulebook
  • Many employees trained in Standard First Aid

Safety protects everyone involved — homeowners, visitors, and trade partners.

When our Health & Safety Management System is followed consistently:

  • Job sites are safer
  • Risks and incidents are reduced
  • Everyone understands expectations and procedures

We value our relationships with our homeowners and trade partners, and we want everyone to stay safe across every site.
