Building Futures

McKee Homes, in initial partnership with George McDougall High School, and the Rockyview School Division, is proud to announce the ongoing innovative and exciting program now in its eighth year, called Building Futures. In 2020/21 we again have students from Airdrie and Crossfield Rocky View High Schools working in our community as part of the program, building homes with us. In this school year we are proud to be working in the Genesis community of Bayside.

Building Futures teaches students home building from the foundation up. Students are introduced to every angle of home construction, in a classroom they help to build themselves, and in two new homes they help build to completion. All this, while getting their high school academic education right on site. It's a special program, and we’d like to thank our past and current partners and sponsors for their vision and support —and we’d like to congratulate and commend Building Futures students (now more than 200 strong!) and their supportive parents for their initiative and belief in this innovative way of learning - not better or less than traditional school, but different.

In 2021 so far the students also took the initiative to work together with a new local dog pound and rescue centre - (APARC) to completely design and build their kennel areas! Thanks to the many partners who made this work happen, including Fulton's Home Hardware, Ricam Construction, Du All Drywall and our own team members - Building Futures Project Manager Sheri McAllister and Site Assistant Terry Lindsay.

You can follow each year's progress on our Facebook page and through Twitter on @mckeeairdrie and @buildfutures1
