Six weeks before moving

• Notify physicians and dentist of your move, and ask for referrals.
• Make check-up appointment for pets. Obtain a copy of your pet's records and get new tags (if necessary). Check with your vet for vaccination and movement requirements for your new location.
• Take an objective look at what you own and figure out what goes with you, gets left behind or goes into storage. Most moving companies have a minimum weight restriction. Above the minimum, more weight means more cost.
• Contact any clubs or associations for information on transferring, selling or ending memberships.
• Complete a change of address card at the post office for the following:
  • Banks
  • Charge cards
  • Doctors and dentists
  • Friends and relatives
  • Social Security Administration
  • Insurance broker, lawyer, accountant and stockbroker
  • Religious organizations
  • Magazines
  • Schools
