Buy standardized moving boxes from a moving company. They're built for moving and pack together more evenly.
Label your boxes as you pack them, including where they should go, in your new home.
Pack heavy items in small boxes. Fill in around odd shaped items with plastic grocery bags.
Wrap breakables in packing paper, bubble wrap, clothes or towels. Newspaper ink will smudge items.
Leave lamps, china, and artwork and other breakables for professional movers to pack.
Don't overstuff boxes; leave some extra room at the top.
Never pack jewellery, important papers or medicine.
Tape cords underneath all electrical appliances.
Don't tape furniture doors and drawers - tape damages them.
Professional movers will not move propane cylinders and other flammables.
