- Give notice to your current landlord or management company.
- Cancel any monthly services. Many require at least 30 days notice or you will be billed for an extra month.
- Before you move--clear out the clutter. Auction off items. Have a yard sale, and set aside donation items.
- Have a BBQ to use up perishables, flammables and open liquor bottles. Note: Movers will not move combustible or flammable materials, or open liquor bottles.
- Arrange for transfer of school records for yourself or children.
- Start involving your kids in the move. Make it exciting by having your kids pack some of their own things, and letting them figure out new layouts for their rooms.
- Check on special transportation requirements for moving pets.
- Arrange for storage of your items if needed.
- Make travel arrangements and reservations.
- Research clubs, organizations and church affiliations in the area.
- Schedule disconnection of telephone, utilities and appliances in your old house.
- Arrange connection of telephone, utilities and appliances in your new house.
- Begin packing, unless you have arranged for all packing to be handled by the mover.
- If necessary, arrange special transport of plants. Consider giving your plants to friends or family.
