• Create a "Move" file to store receipts and records, and keep it handy!
• Find out which moving expenses are tax-deductible.
• Contact moving companies and truck rental companies for estimates and moving assistance information. Tip: Reserve well in advance as companies are often sold out for key move weekends.
• Confirm moving dates
• Discuss your employer's moving policies/restrictions
• Prepare up-to-date inventory with pictures
• Order phone book
• Remove unnecessary items from your attic, basement, closets and other storage areas.
• Call your insurance agent to find out if your move is covered.
• Try to use things that you won't be taking with you like cleaning supplies and frozen foods.
• Arrange to have children's school records transferred.
